L. Robert Kohls
L. Robert Kohls, pioneer
interculturalist, passed away peacefully on August
9th 2006 at his home. The field of intercultural
work is deeply indebted to him as are the many
individual interculturalists who have personally
benefited by his teaching, mentorship and advice.
SIETAR Europa sends its deep condolences to his
wife Norma and those close to him. He will be
deeply missed.
Most recently Robert
served as Senior Research Fellow with the Global
Vision Group. He was also Professor of International
Relations and of International Business at San
Francisco State University and Professor of
Intercultural Management in the Pacific Basin
Studies graduate program at Dominican
College in San Rafael, California. He has
worked in public service, education and in countless
organizations to improve cultural competence.
He is the author of such best selling books as
Survival Kit for Overseas Living, Developing Intercultural
Awareness, Learning to Think Korean, and Training
Know-How for Cross-Cultural and Diversity Trainers.
In 1986 he was a recipient of the SIETAR Primus
Inter Pares Award for his contributions to the
field.
