Statements
I have been a member of SIETAR Europa since 2005, when I first joined the organisation as an intern assisting preparation process of the SE Congress in La Colle sur Loup. Later I came back to the management ends of the organisation, as a coordinator of preparations of SIETAR Europa Congress in Sofia 2007. After the congress I was elected as a representative of direct members. I am the youngest member, working with pleasure on projects with Young SIETAR. I have been working on preparations of the website, e-newsletter, member database management and lately also European fundraising.
I would like to focus on structural improvement of SIETAR Europa, so that we would create capacity for effective fundraising which could cover not only annual operation of our office but also shared intercultural projects initiated by our members.
In my home country (Czech Republic) I work as a manager of an international theatre festival, as well as consultant on cultural policies and cultural management and fundraising. I am also building my profession of an intercultural trainer.
It has been my pleasure to be a member of SE. In my opinion, it is time that SIETAR and Turkey become better acquainted with each other. After many years of experience in the field of cross-cultural relations, I have therefore decided to take a more active role in SE’s organizational growth. In addition to my professional expertise, I would like to utilize my experience with numerous NGOs to contribute more resolutely to make SE better known throughout Turkey.
I hold a doctorate in Adult Teaching and Intercultural Education from Berlin Freie University, and have completed post-doctoral studies in Organisational Development and Human Resource Management from KLETT WBS in Berlin.
Living in Istanbul, I work as a consultant and trainer in the area of intercultural communication and management, adult education, and organizational development. I was an assistant professor for human resource management and intercultural communication at the Istanbul Commerce University, and for several years, worked as a lecturer for adult training and intercultural education at the Berlin Freie University. In addition to my business and educational endeavours, I have published numerous international articles and books dealing with intercultural communication and comparative educational policies. One of my recent personally and inter-culturally enriching experiences was to write the Cultural Detective: Turkey together with George Simons.
For more than 20 years I have been involved in organizations and trade unions for human rights, intercultural dialogue and social rights in both Germany and Turkey. I gained much experience and insight that I would like to bring into the work of SE, especially in areas such as networking and public work.
In Turkey, issues related to cross-cultural communication have been treated rather marginally thus far. Also, among international Turkish enterprises, a consciousness over the necessity for specific discussions and training is only beginning to grow slowly. A result of this is that there is only a little exchange between those Turkish interculturalists, who are active in the field as trainers, consultants or academicians. Within SE I would love to have the chance to further engage myself to develop and extend these relations.
All my life I have had a passion for the intercultural field. As a person, I have grown up with three ‘home cultures’: Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands. As a professional, working on all continents and with people from all corners of the world, has added the spice to my existence that I cannot live without!.
Combining my profession as a psychologist with the intercultural field and languages has led me to support internationally mobile executives and teams in using the cross cultural aspect to the advantage of their businesses and themselves. Being gay has given me the extra perspective of what it means to be a minority group member.
Sietar is indispensable in bringing us practitioners together in order to learn, share and continuously develop. To not keep learning means being left behind. The annual congress is not enough, we need to maximize the use of modern communication platforms. To experiment and find ways to share knowledge and experience that keeps us at the forefront. I look forward to contributing my creativity and experience in the design of innovative learning methodology to the Sietar Europa Board .
I have a family with two bi lingual kids.
