Becoming an Ethical, Competent & Effective Intercultural Practitioner: Best Practices in Getting from Theory to Practice

This workshop is designed to help new graduates and career changers within the intercultural/diversity field and new or experienced trainers and practitioners in other occupations:

  1. Reflect on the functional and ethical responsibilities and duties of intercultural/diversity practitioners

  2. Confirm that they have both the motivation and the basic skills and experience to launch a successful career in this area

  3. Explore the different freelance and in-house opportunities that are available in the intercultural/diversity training field and the associated areas of intercultural/diversity coaching, consulting and facilitation (including, if possible, direct advice from experienced intercultural/diversity practitioners and potential employers)

  4. Devise effective marketing strategies and publicity materials for finding full- and/or part-time work

  5. Develop practical skills to network, interview and negotiate successfully

  6. Design concrete personal action plans for building on existing qualifications and expertise; filling in any immediate gaps over the short to medium term; and ensuring consistent professional development over the long term

A. Jeremy Solomons


Jeremy Solomons is the UK-born founder/president of Jeremy Solomons & Associates. He provides customized coaching, facilitation and training in Alliances & Partnering, Career Development, Conflict Resolution, Global and Domestic Diversity, Global Leadership, Globalizing Organizations, High Potentials, Interactive Presentations, International Meetings and Multicultural Teambuilding to current and future leaders around the world from his base in Austin, Texas, USA.

In the Career Development arena, Jeremy founded one of the first private career counseling firms in Italy in the early 1990's and since then, he has coached many individuals and co-designed and -delivered many workshops on intercultural and international career development around the world.

His recent sessions include the Intercultural Management Institute in Washington, DC; Intercultural Professional Workshops in London; Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) in Portland, Oregon and Vienna, Austria; and Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication (SIIC) in Portland, Oregon
.
He is also trying to find time to complete a book on Intercultural Career Development with Robert Kohls Ph.D, with whom he presented a workshop at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. He has been a guest presenter and lecturer on career issues at other academic institutions, including Bocconi University in Milan, Italy and George Washington University in Washington, DC.

A. Peter Petzal

Peter Petzal is a specialist in organization development and management consultancy with a distinct emphasis on cross-cultural issues working alongside corporate management and international teams to develop and leverage competence and effective working practices where working in a multi-cultural environment.

Peter has extensive experience in working with multi-nationals, major commercial and industrial companies, government organizations and SMEs at both strategic and operational levels particularly where across borders.

Much of his work involves designating and delivering training and facilitated workshops to develop international teams; facilitating and building leadership, assessing and working with organizational cultural differences, leveraging diversity and facilitating dispute resolution.

In career development, Peter is a founder of the intercultural professional training workshops (icpw) designed to train fellow professionals. Recently he has been engaged to develop a new set of cross-culturally effective competencies for the development and assessment centres of a global European company.

Educated in London, USA and Switzerland, he speaks English, French and German. He divides his time between London and France when he is not travelling for work.
