PATRICK BOYLAN

Here is how SIETAR Election Committee Chairman Patrick Boylan kept busy over Christmas holidays. Together with the Peace Movement in Rome, Italy, he staged a Living Nativity Scene in the streets from Christmas until the Epiphany (January 6th), the day the Three Wise Men arrived in Bethlehem bearing gifts and thus the day on which Italian children receive their most desired toys.

Actually, it wasn't an enactment of the Nativity in Bethlehem but of a real event that took place over Christmas in Falluja, Iraq. A woman gave birth in the streets of Falluja because her home and neighborhood had been destroyed (by "intelligent" bombs?) and the local hospital, together with 5 doctors and untold patients, had been annihilated, too (by "intelligent" bombs?). In the portrayal pictured above, an American soldier, repentant, has just broken his rifle and is seeking to help the woman and her injured husband (well, at least the soldier is intelligent!).

Three wise Imams arrive bringing the Iraqi family, as gifts, Justice, the Right to Resist, and Media that tell the truth (that's Patrick under the gaudy pink robe, holding the gift box labeled "Verità"). The Living Nativity Scene was staged to raise funds for the World Tribunal on Iraq, Italian Session, which will investigate how accurately the Media have covered Iraq and which will be held at the University of Rome III in February.
